Elli-Q
Social Robot for the Elderly
While at Fuseproject, we collaborated with Intuition Robotics to design Elli-Q, an AI-powered desktop companion created to help older adults stay engaged with loved ones and the world around them. The platform combined three key elements: an expressive robotic head that conveyed personality and intent, a custom-designed tablet with a tailored UX/UI for everyday interactions, and a companion mobile app that enabled family and caregivers to stay connected.
In addition to designing clear color and scale for the tablet UI, I introduced the concept of a distance-adaptive interface, where text size, voice volume, and conversational pace adjust to the user’s proximity—making Elli-Q feel more natural and responsive. I also shaped the companion app to be proactive for caregivers, enabling the system to notify them if the elder was inactive for long periods (e.g., watching TV for hours), prompting check-ins that encouraged more meaningful social engagement.
Together, these components formed an integrated system that blended physical design, robotic interaction, and digital experience into a seamless whole—encouraging meaningful engagement through approachable, intuitive technology.
